The Norm Sandberg Campaign for Mayor of Collingwood (the “Campaign”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you visit normformayor.ca (the “Website”) or otherwise interact with the Campaign.
We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Ontario law. This policy is provided for transparency and should be read together with Ontario’s municipal campaign finance rules where they apply to contributions and public disclosure.
Who is responsible for your information
The Campaign is responsible for personal information collected through the Website and through Campaign activities connected to it. The Campaign is authorized by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Norm Sandberg Campaign.

What personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

- Donation-related information — if you contact us about contributing, we may collect information needed to respond and, if you donate, information required under Ontario municipal campaign finance law (which may include your name and address for contributions above applicable thresholds).
- Technical information — basic data automatically collected when you visit the Website, such as browser type, device type, referring page, and general usage information through our hosting provider’s server logs.
We collect personal information only when you provide it to us (for example, through a form or email) or when it is reasonably necessary to operate the Website.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Respond to your messages and requests.
- Process lawn sign requests and coordinate delivery where applicable.
- Send campaign news and updates if you have subscribed or otherwise consented to receive them.
- Communicate about volunteering, events, and Campaign activities.
- Respond to donation inquiries and meet legal obligations related to municipal campaign contributions and record-keeping.
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Website.
- Comply with applicable laws, including Ontario municipal election and campaign finance requirements.
We do not sell your personal information.

By submitting information through the Website or otherwise providing information to the Campaign, you consent to its collection and use for the purposes described in this policy, unless you withdraw consent or we are required or permitted by law to use it for another purpose.
You may withdraw consent for non-essential communications (such as newsletters) at any time by contacting us or using an unsubscribe option when provided. Withdrawal of consent may limit our ability to provide certain services (for example, sending you updates).
Campaign finance and public disclosure
Ontario municipal campaign finance rules may require the Campaign to record and publicly disclose certain information about contributors. For example, contributions above prescribed amounts may require your name and address to be included in the candidate’s financial statement, which is a public document. When we share information
We may share personal information only as needed and in these circumstances:
- Service providers — with vendors who help us operate the Website or process forms and communications (for example, website hosting, email delivery, or form processing services). These providers are permitted to use information only to perform services for the Campaign.
- Legal requirements — when required by law, court order, or regulatory authority, including municipal clerk or Elections Ontario requirements.
- Campaign operations — with authorized Campaign volunteers or agents who need the information to carry out Campaign activities on our behalf, under appropriate confidentiality expectations.
Website hosting and third-party services
The Website is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit the site, GitHub may process technical information such as IP address and browser data as part of providing hosting services. GitHub’s privacy practices are described at github.com/privacy.
The Website uses Google Fonts to display typography. When fonts are loaded, Google may receive technical information such as your IP address. See Google’s Privacy Policy for details.
If you email the campaign (for example at norm@norm4mayor.ca), we use the information you provide to respond to your inquiry and for campaign-related communication. Newsletter signup may use a third-party provider (such as Elfsight / a mailing-list service) with its own terms.
Social media
The Website includes links to social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn). Those platforms are operated by third parties with their own privacy policies. Information you provide on social media is governed by the platform’s policies, not this Website.
Cookies and analytics
The Website is designed to work without requiring you to accept marketing or tracking cookies. We do not currently use third-party advertising or analytics trackers on this site. Standard server and browser technical data may still be collected by our hosting provider as part of normal website operation.
If we add analytics or similar tools in the future, we will update this policy to describe what is collected and how you can manage your preferences.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. Campaign records, including contribution information, may need to be retained for periods required under Ontario municipal elections legislation and guidance from the municipal clerk.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA, you may have the right to:
- Ask whether we hold personal information about you and receive access to it, subject to legal exceptions.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Withdraw consent for certain uses, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
- Challenge our compliance with PIPEDA by contacting us or, if unresolved, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children
The Website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
